Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks (18-13) defeated the Somerset Patriots (21-10) 7-6 Wednesday evening from TD Bank Ballpark. The game was delayed 53 minutes at the start due to rain.
In the top of the first inning center fielder Lew Ford hit a RBI groundout to give Long Island a 1-0 advantage.
Long Island plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to increase its lead to 3-0. First baseman Jon Griffin clubbed a RBI double while catcher Jose Morales recorded a RBI sacrifice fly.
The Patriots exploded for six runs on six hits as 11 batters came to the plate in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Somerset a 6-3 lead. Left fielder Scott Cousins cranked a two run home run (1) and third baseman David Vidal stroked a RBI single. Catcher Adam Donachie drew a bases loaded walk and center fielder Jonny Tucker socked a two RBI single.
The Ducks cut into the deficit making the score 6-5 in the ensuing half inning as third baseman Cody Puckett hit a RBI sacrifice fly and right fielder Bryan Sabatella roped a RBI single.
In the top of the eighth inning the Ducks jumped in front scoring two runs to grab a 7-6 lead. Second baseman Reegie Corona legged out a RBI fielder's choice while Ford sliced a RBI single.
Patrick Crider earned the win (1-1) in relief. Kyler Newby suffered the loss (4-1) in relief. Ryan Kussmaul notched the save (8) pitching the final inning.
