Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers are back home, and all is well.
Dan Coury lined a single down the left field line, scoring Lance Zawadzki from second base in the bottom of the ninth as the Barnstormers trimmed the Bridgeport Bluefish, 4-3, in the opener of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
Zawadzki led off the ninth with a single to right, his third hit of the game, and stole second. Coury, the DH, worked the count to 3-2 against Tim Gustafson (0-3) before lining his winning hit well out of the reach of left fielder Welington Dotel. Zawadzki was waved home by third base coach D.J. Boston and was able to score uncontested when Dotel bobbled the ball in his haste to get it home.
A two-run homer by Sean Burroughs in the top of the fifth gave Bridgeport a 3-1 lead against starter Dan Osterbrock. Lancaster could not answer against starter Parker Frazier, who checked Lancaster on four hits and an unearned run for six innings.
The Barnstormers were able to fight back against the Bluefish pen. Zawadzki took the first offering from Luis Perdomo in the seventh inning over the wall in right for his fourth homer of the season to trim the lead to 3-2. In the eighth, Yusuke Kajimoto greeted Shairon Martis with a single up the middle and stole second. Blake Gailen's grounder to first advanced Kajimoto to third. Brian Cavazos-Galvez ripped a grounder between third and short as Bridgeport brought its infield to the edge of the grass, tying the game at 3-3.
Chad Beck (1-0) , the fourth Lancaster reliever, tossed a perfect ninth inning to record the win.
Lancaster will send Bryan Woodall (0-3) to the hill on Thursday evening against lefty Mike Antonini (2-2), the first southpaw started faced by the Barnstormers since May 12. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN, rumba1390.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
