Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y.) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Road Warriors 10-1 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Ducks claimed the game's first run in the bottom of the second when Matt Esquivel scored on a wild pitch by Road Warriors' starter Kelvin Villa. Three more runs in the third on a two-run triple down the right field line by John Rodriguez and a RBI single to left by Freddie Thon pushed the lead to 4-0.
Long Island put the game away with a six-run seventh inning. A three-run homer to right by Matt Padgett, a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kraig Binick, and a two-run double to right by Rodriguez did the damage and gave the Ducks a 10-0 lead.
That was more than enough for Ducks' starter Heath Phillips (1-1) who picked up the win, firing eight innings, allowing just one run on three hits with seven strikeouts. Villa (0-1) took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits in just four innings of work.
J.R. House led the Ducks' offense with three hits, while Padgett, Rodriguez, and Thon each collected two.
The Ducks continue their series with the Road Warriors on Saturday, May 14. Game time is set for 7:05 PM, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Ruddy Lugo will take the mound for Long Island opposing the Road Warriors' Ezequiel Astacio.
Tickets to the game and all upcoming games are available at the Bethpage Ballpark Box Office, over the phone at 631-940-TIXX, or online at www.liducks.com by clicking on the tickets icon at the top of the page.
