
Ducks Beat Patriots with Ninth Inning Rally

Bridgewater, NJ - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 5-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.
The Ducks broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth inning. Right fielder Billy Kovatch hit a bunt single, catcher Robinson Cancel doubled, and designated hitter Willis Otanez was intentionally walked to load the bases. With two outs, third baseman Javier Colina doubled to plate Kovatch and Cancel to gain the lead. Shortstop Matt Cavagnaro followed with a two-run single to put the Ducks up 5-1.
The Ducks took a 1-0 lead to start of the game on a lead off home run by center fielder Joey Gathright (2).
The Patriots tied up the game with a run in the bottom of the first inning. First baseman Joe Burke singled and later scored on an RBI double by left fielder Noah Hall to make the score 1-1.
Ducks reliever Ivan Maldonado (3-4) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Patriots reliever Scott Williamson (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in an inning pitched.
The Somerset Patriots 2010 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The game includes Golf Balls (1st 2,000 Men) and Prostate Cancer Awareness Night courtesy of Somerset Medical Center Foundation.
