Dubuque Falls to Waterloo, 3-2 in First of Two to Start 2020

Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
The Dubuque Fighting Saints fell to the Waterloo Black Hawks, 3-2 on Friday night after three goals in the third from Waterloo. It was the second time this season at the Mystique Ice Center that Waterloo used a third period comeback to take two points against the Saints. Wyatt Schingoethe scored the game winner on the power play with about eight minutes left in regulation.
-Dubuque controlled the pace and was the better team through the first 40 minutes of play. Waterloo grabbed the lead in the third off of two fortunate bounces as the Black Hawks applied heavy pressure on Saints net minder Aidan McCarthy.
-Xander Lamppa, who had a 10-game point streak snapped last game for Waterloo, hopped right back on the horse with two points for the Hawks. Lamppa has 20 points in his last 11 games for Waterloo.
-The Saints could have been up more going in to the third had it not been for the play of Gabriel Carriere in net. Carriere stopped 23 pucks through the first two periods as the Black Hawks netminder was the story of the game for the first 40 minutes.
-Tommy Middleton scored for Dubuque in the first period on a gorgeous feed from Robert Cronin. Ian Pierce also factored in on the scoring, grabbing a secondary assist and his first USHL point in the process. Middleton has been a bigger part of the offense as of late for Dubuque.
-Braden Doyle continues to pour in the points, netting his sixth goal of the season on the power play for Dubuque. Doyle snipped a shot from the point past Carriere for his sixth and tied the game briefly for Dubuque in the third.
-Waterloo is now up in the season series, 2-1 after the win. The road team has won the first three installments of the 2019-2020 series. Dubuque will look for another strong performance in Waterloo tomorrow night.
-The Black Hawks have now won six straight games as they extended their win streak. The Hawks have a commanding lead in the Western Conference after the win tonight as they sit 13 points up on the next closest team. With the loss Dubuque remains in third place in the East, three points behind Team USA but with four games in hand.
-Next up for Dubuque: Waterloo again tomorrow night at the Young Arena. Last time out, Dubuque beat Waterloo 7-1 on their home ice.
