Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Traveling to the lowcountry to take on their cross state rival, Drive (12-11) batters were baffled by a quintet of RiverDogs (13-10) pitchers and David Adams drove home both runs in Charleston's 2-0 win Saturday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Charleston claimed an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning when Ray Kruml drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and moved to third on a groundout. Kruml scored on Adams' sacrifice fly to right.
The RiverDogs doubled the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third when Carmen Angelini was hit by a pitch, stole second and sprinted home when Adams lined a double to the left-center field gap for his second RBI on the night.
Adams finished the game 3-for-4, accounting for half of the RiverDogs' six hits.
Making a spot start for the RiverDogs, right-hander Hector Noesi baffled Drive batters for 3.2 innings as he scattered two hits and struck out five of the 13 batters he faced.
The quartet of relief pitchers - Brandon Braboy, Ryan Flannery, Cory Arbiso and Pat Venditte - combined to silence Greenville. The four fanned 10 and allowed only one walk while scattering four hits.
Greenville's Bryan Price (2-1) lost for the first time this season as he went 5.1 frames and permitted both runs on five hits while walking one and striking out five. Relievers Mitch Herold and Felix Ventura combined to hold the RiverDogs scoreless over the final 2.2 innings.
Herold, a southpaw, allowed a hit and a pair of walks while fanning three in 2.0 innings. Ventura faced only one batter, enducing
Tim Federowicz led Greenville as he slapped two hits, while Kade Keowen and David Marks recorded the other two.
The Drive and RiverDogs square off in game two of their four-game set Sunday at 5:05 PM. Greenville gives the ball to right-hander Casey Kelly (3-0, 0.90) as Charleston gives the ball to right-hander David Phelps (2-0, 2.42 ERA).
