Greenville Drive News Release
Augusta, GA - The Drive (10-7) experienced a little role reversal Saturday night, as the host Augusta GreenJackets (9-8) beat them with timely hitting and solid pitching, something that Greenville had used for their best start in franchise history.
The trio of Brock Bond, Nick Noonan, and Thomas Neal paced Augusta offensively, knocking in all nine of the GreenJackets runs. Noonan started it all in the bottom of the first, lacing a two-run triple off the Drive's Jose Alvarez (0-2).
A two-run homer by Neal in the bottom of the fifth pushed the GreenJackets lead to 5-0, before they added four more runs an inning later. With two outs Bond and Noonan each recorded two-run singles off Ryan Colvin.
After T.J. Brewer (1-1) held the Drive scoreless for the first six innings, Greenville was able to push across three runs in Waldis Joaquin's two innings of relief. A throwing error by Charlie Culberson allowed Mike Jones to score and Kristopher Negron added a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Anthony Rizzo added an RBI-single in the eighth.
Jones finished the game a perfect 3-for-3, extending his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games. Rizzo's 2-for-4 evening extended his own hitting streak to 10 games.
The Drive and GreenJackets continue their three-game series tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set for 2:05 PM. Greenville will send right-hander Chris Province to the mound as Augusta counters with lefty Craig Clark.
After the three-game set in Augusta and an off day on Tuesday, the Drive return home to Fluor Field on Wednesday, April 23rd for a six-game home stand in which they host the Asheville Tourists and the Hickory Crawdads.
Wednesday's game will be the Drive's second Businessperson Special, presented by Find Great People, of the season with first pitch at 11:05 AM. Fluor Field will host a bevy of baseball in the span of 24 hours beginning Tuesday, April 22nd as the South Carolina Gamecocks and Furman Paladins square-off at 7:05 PM. After the Drive's early game on Wednesday, the Clemson Tigers and Presbyterian Blue Hose will call Fluor Field home at 7:05 PM.
