Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, Georgia- Runners left on base was the name of the game for the Columbus Catfish Saturday night, as they fell to the league leading Charleston RiverDogs 6-0 at Golden Park. The Catfish left a total of 9 runners on base in the ballgame; and left at least 1 on in each inning, save for the sixth and the ninth. The Columbus Catfish also failed to drive in a run in 11 chances with runners in scoring position.

A solid pitching performance from New York Yankees Minor League prospect Dellin Betances also contributed to the poor showing by Columbus' offense. The right-handed pitcher went 5 innings, allowing 0 earned runs, 2 hits, while striking out 5 to earn his third victory in 2008.

Back-to-back doubles from designated hitter Austin Romine and right-fielder Dave Williams gave the RiverDogs their first run of the game in the top of the second inning. They added another in the fifth on Abraham Almonte's first homerun of the season, making the score 2-0. Almonte was responsible for four of the RiverDogs 6 runs on the night. After his fifth inning homer, the lead off hitter blasted a 3 RBI triple in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach at 6-0. Charleston reliever Jonathan Ortiz shut down the 7-8-9 hitters in the Columbus lineup to close the game out in the bottom of the ninth and hand the Catfish their eighth loss.

Game 3 of the 4 game set between the Columbus Catfish and Charleston RiverDogs takes place Sunday April 20th, with first pitch and 2 PM.
