Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
GREENVILLE, SC-Matt Sheely's 8th inning single gave Greenville an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the 8th inning, capping a comeback from 7-1 down to take their 3rd straight game from Lakewood on Tuesday night.
Lars Anderson drove in Josh Reddick with an 8th inning single to tie the game at 7 and complete a six- run comeback for the Drive.
Paige Dumont (0-1) gave up the 8th inning runs, though the 2nd was unearned, set up by Welinson Baez and Fidel Hernandez errors, two of three made by the BlueClaws (25-25) on the night. The BlueClaws had lost five in a row from July 21st through July 25th.
It's Lakewood's fourth straight loss overall, and Greenville (25-27) has taken the first three games of the series.
Jorge Rodriguez (4-1) got four outs and picked up the win while Josh Papelbon added his 15th save.
Greenville had scored two runs in the 7th on back-to- back triples by Michael Jones and Matt Sheely, with Aaron Reza grounding out to score Sheely and make it 7-6 off of Zach Sterner.
The Drive had two runs in the 6th, also off Sterner, who gave up four (three earned) over 1 2/3 innings of work.
Sterner came on for Antonio Bastardo, who lasted five innings, giving up two runs, but walking five. When he exited, the BlueClaws had a 7-2 lead, built largely with three first inning runs on RBIs from Tuffy Gosewisch and Jay Miller with another run scoring on a wild pitch. Lakewood had five of their 14 hits in the first inning off of Ryan Phillips (3.1 IP, six runs, five earned).
Fidel Hernandez and Berry had 3rd inning SAC flies to build the lead to 5-0.
Berry was 3-4 with a walk and is 17-35 on the road trip. He has multiple-hits in five of his last six games. Adrian Cardenas was 2-3 with a run and two walks and Gus Milner, Jay Miller, and Welinson Baez each added two hits.
The series and road trip finale comes Wednesday night at 7:00. RHP Scott Mitchinson (1-1, 4.50) goes for Lakewood against RHP Jimmy James (2-1, 4.38).
