Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (50-20, 29-23) rallied for a win in 10 innings over the Delmarva Shorebirds (34-33, 25-26) on Tuesday night, 4-3. Juan Trinidad recorded the win in relief and Bobby Felmy drove in the winning run with an RBI sac-fly to left field scoring Mike McBryde from third base.
McBryde led off the bottom half of the 10th inning with a walk then moved to second base on a wild pitch from Brett Bordes. Juan Jean then sacrificed McBryde over to third base and with one out in the inning Emmanuel Burriss was intentionally walked to set up the double play. Bordes was able to get Brad Boyer into a 1-2 count but hit Boyer in the back to load the bases up for Felmy.
Trinidad (3-2) worked 1.2 shutout innings allowing just one hit while striking out three.
Augusta took the early lead in the first inning when Burriss scored from third on an RBI ground out from Felmy for a 1-0 lead. The GreenJackets made it 2-0 in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI single from Burriss scoring Joey Dyche.
Starter Adam Cowart left after six shutout innings and allowed four hits while walking one and striking out two for the no-decision.
The Shorebirds took a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning off reliever Mike Musgrave. With runners on first and second Victor Castillo connected for an RBI single to trim the lead to 2-1. On the play McBryde committed and throwing error on the throw back to the infield and then Musgrave had a throwing error to plate allowing Miguel Abreu to score the tying run and Castillo to go to third. Pedro Florimon then reached on the fielding error from Brett Pill allowing Castillo to score from third for a 3-2 lead.
Augusta tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning when Delmarva committed an error of its own. With two outs in the inning and McBryde on first, Juan Jean hit a grounder to second and Abreu booted it allowing McBryde to score the tying run.
The GreenJackets finish their home stand on Wednesday night with Augusta sending lefty Steven Calicutt (3-5, 4.41) to the hill. The Shorebirds will counter with right-hander Tim Bascom (2-1, 2.96). First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
Game Notes:
Augusta improved to 5-7 in extra innings this season.
The GreenJackets won back-to-back home games for the first time since July 23-24
Adam Cowart has not allowed an earned run in 18 innings pitched (three starts)
