GRAND RAPIDS, MI - The Texas Legends (6-11) faltered at the free throw line, ultimately falling at the buzzer to the Grand Rapids Drive (6-9) 99-101.
The game got off to a slow start with both teams going scoreless for two minutes before Ray Spalding put the Legends in their first lead. Six minutes in, Grand Rapids took over and led 31-25 at the first break. Early in the second, the Drive took their largest lead of the night (+8). Texas chipped away but the home team extended the gap again at the midway mark. Texas responded with a 9-2 run and pulled back on top by halftime.
After taking a four-point lead into the locker room, Texas came out and allowed eight unanswered points. The two went back and forth five times but Grand Rapids held the Legends to 16 third quarter points to take a 79-76 lead into the final minutes. The visitors stayed close throughout the fourth but were unable to connect on the final second game-winner.
Texas grabbed a season-high 52 rebounds but hit a season-low 59% from the free throw line. Rashad Vaughn knocked down 7-of-13 from outside to lead the Legends with 29 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists. Spalding added 20 points, 2 blocks, and a game-high 15 rebounds. Daryl Macon finished with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Keith Hornsby added 12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Johnny Hamilton led the Drive with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks. Scottie Lindsey added 19 points, 9 rebounds, and Kenneth Smith dished out 10 assists with 10 points. Marcus Thornton finished with 17 off the bench while Todd Withers matched Hamilton's game-high 4 blocks.
