Northern Arizona Suns News Release
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Northern Arizona Suns presented a check to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Foundation during halftime of Saturday's contest against the Stockton Kings for money raised during their third annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
The Suns donated $5,250 to the YRMC Foundation to help support breast cancer care and programs in Yavapai County.
Sporting black jerseys with pink trim at their game on Nov. 16, the Suns held a postgame auction for the game-worn jerseys that were autographed by players following the event. Each auction winner also got to meet and take photos with the player whose jersey they purchased.
"For the third straight year, we wanted to help make a difference and help bring awareness to a disease that affects too many of us and our loved ones," Northern Arizona Suns President Chris Presson said. "With the help of our great fans, we were able to raise $5,250 to donate to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Foundation to further support their great program and resources in providing the best care to those with breast cancer in our community."
Presson and NAZ Suns Director of Business Operations Ashley Stovall presented the check to YRMC Foundation representatives Dave Barrett and Angi Ryan, and to Operations Manager of the YRMC BreastCare Center Kathi Hoffer at a halftime presentation on Saturday. The Suns also presented YRMC with a customized breast cancer awareness jersey of their own.
Courtesy of YRMC, fans in attendance on Breast Cancer Awareness Night were given pink NAZ Suns rally towels to help enhance the atmosphere of the game. Suns players, coaches, personnel and fans filled out cards to declare who they fight for, creating a powerful moment to show the colossal amount of support breast cancer survivors and victims have. Suns players wrote names of family members and friends on their shorts to support those they know with breast cancer, while also standing with breast cancer survivors during the national anthem.
To add to the powerful night, everyone in attendance got to witness the first game-winning basket as time expired at the Prescott Valley Event Center by the NAZ Suns in team history, as George King nailed a three-point shot at the buzzer to defeat the Agua Caliente Clippers 120-117.
