Charleston RiverDogs News Release
GREENVILLE, NC- Jose Vinicio drove in four runs to lead the Greenville Drive to a 13-3 win over the Charleston RiverDogs in South Atlantic League action on Friday night at Fluor Field with 5,126 in attendance.
The RiverDogs record now stands at 33-21 so far this season while Greenville moved to 28-26.
Greenville got on the board in the first inning after a double by Bryan Johns (3-5, 2 RBI, 2 runs) started things off. With one out, the Drive drew four consecutive walks from starter Bryan Mitchell (4-3) to force in two runs. With two outs, Jordan Weems beat out an infield single to score a third run and a base hit by Vinicio (3-5, 4 RBI, run) scored two more to give the Drive a 5-0 first inning lead. In the second, they tallied another run when Garin Cecchini doubled and scored on a fielders choice.
The RiverDogs put a dent into the deficit in the fourth, putting up three runs. Cito Culver led off with a double and scored on a Gary Sanchez (2-3, RBI, run) single. Reymond Nunez then knocked in two more with a single as Charleston cut the deficit in half. Those were the only three runs that Drive starter Yeiper Castillo (5-1) would allow, as he gave up just three hits and struck out five in five innings for the win.
After seeing their lead cut in half, Greenville immediately responded and blew the game open in the bottom of the inning. With two outs and the bases loaded, back-to-back doubles by Vinicio and Johns brought in two runs each and stretched their lead to 10-3. Blake Swihart added another run in the sixth with his third homer of the year and two more runs came in in the seventh on a groundout and a solo blast by Boss Moanaroa.
The RiverDogs never mounted a serious threat after their rally in the fourth. Justin Erasmus took over in the sixth and threw three scoreless innings before handing things over to Charle Rosario, who put up another zero in the ninth.
In game three of the series, Charleston RHP Scottie Allen (1-3, 5.02 ERA) will be on the hill against Greenville LHP Henry Owens (4-2, 5.63 ERA). The scheduled start time on Saturday night at 7:05 pm.
