Drive Come Back to Stun RiverDogs in Extras

Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive and Charleston RiverDogs locked horns in one of the wildest game in recent memory at Fluor Field on Friday night, as the Drive came back from a 9-1 deficit and stunned the RiverDogs 10-9 in 10 innings.

With the extra inning rule in effect, the Drive (20-39) opened the 10th with Michael Osinski on second, and a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third. Two batters later, Kervin Suarez drew a walk, but ball four from Austin DeCarr (1-1) bounced away from the catcher, and Osinski came in to score and cap the wild comeback.

The RiverDogs (29-30) exploded for eight runs against Hildemaro Requena in the top of the fourth to take a 9-1 lead. Back-to-back-to-back homers in a span of three pitches was the highlight of the frame, led by a grand slam from Wilkerman Garcia. Dermis Garcia followed with a solo homer over the Green Monster, and Steven Sensley walloped a solo shot to right-center to cap the inning.

The Drive began chipping away at the Charleston lead in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout by Charlie Madden. They really made their move in the fifth, as they plated four runs. Lorenzo Cedrola brought in a run with a double, and Frankie Rios plated two runs with a double of his own. Rios came in to score on a single by Osinski to trim the deficit to 9-6.

Madden led off the sixth with a solo homer to cut their lead down to two, and the Drive tied the game in the seventh thanks to RBI hits from Osinski and Madden.

In the midst of the comeback, the Drive relief pitching was outstanding. Angel Padron threw four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, and Dominic LoBrutto (1-0) finished with a scoreless 10th to get the victory.

The Drive took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Jordan Wren singled home Rios in his first at-bat with the team, and the RiverDogs tied the game in the second after a double by Miguel Flames and a Drive error.

Cedrola went 3-5 atop the Drive lineup, and Madden drove home three runs while collecting two hits. The Greenville offense also received two-hit nights from Osinski, Rios, Wren and Jagger Rusconi.

The Battle of the Palmetto State presented by Spinx continues at 7:05 PM on Saturday night. Right-hander Denyi Reyes (4-3, 2.23) starts on the mound for the Drive against RiverDogs right-hander Rony Garcia (2-2, 3.64).
