Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Columbia, SC: The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, lost 4-1 to the Columbia Fireflies on Friday night.

The GreenJackets were in control most of the game as All-Star John Gavin continued his masterful season. Gavin went 5 1/3 innings giving up five hits and striking out four. His only run given up came in the sixth inning, when the Fireflies tied up the ballgame.

The only run for the GreenJackets came earlier in the fourth inning when Orlando Garcia hit a home run to left field to put the GreenJackets on the board. This was his third of the season.

With the game tied at one, the Fireflies put up one run in the seventh inning to take the lead. Then in the eighth inning, an Ali Sanchez home run extended the lead to three runs.

In the end, the GreenJackets couldn't come back. They have now lost seven of their last eight games. Game two of the series in Columbia will take place tomorrow at 6:05 pm.
