Greenville, SC - "Turn Back the Clock" Night proved to be synonymous with the visiting Delmarva Shorebirds offense. Because just like a solid gold record, the hits just kept coming for the âBirds, pounding out 14 on their way to a 10-4 victory over the Greenville Drive.
The Drive took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Josh Reddick's 15th home run of the year, and clung to a 2-1 lead after three innings. The Delmarva bats then exploded, scoring runs in four of the next five innings to take a commanding lead.
After retiring nine of the first 10 batters he faced, including six in a row, Brian Steinocher (2-11) ran into a wall. The Shorebirds scoring barrage began in the top of the fourth as the first four batters all tallied hits, including an RBI-single by Brandon Snyder and a two-run double off the bat of Chris Vinyard.
Despite getting out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the fifth, reliever Brantley New did not fair much better. Delmarva tagged the right-hander for three more runs in the top of the sixth. Three consecutive doubles by Vinyard, Miguel Abreu, and Brandon Tripp accounted for two of the Shorebirds run, and they added another on a fielding error by shortstop Argenis Diaz.
The Shorebirds took a commanding 9-2 lead in the top of the seventh as Tripp collected his second triple of the evening, plating Billy Rowell and Vinyard. Pedro Florimon provided the exclamation point in the ninth, belting a solo homer for the Shorebirds ninth extra-base hit of the game.
The Drive scored once more in their final at bat as Reid Engel scored on a wild pitch.
The Drive and Shorebirds continue their four-game series Thursday night with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Southpaw Ryan Phillips will toe the rubber for Greenville as Delmarva counters with right-hander Zach Clark.
Thursday will also mark the second game of the Drive's "Crazy 8" promotion in which Budweiser of Greenville presents $1 Drink Night in the Spinx 500 Club and 300 Plateau. Cherry Dillinger will rock the Spinx 500 Club, performing both pre-game and post-game. Tickets to all Drive home games can be purchased by calling (864) 240-4500 or by visiting www.GreenvilleDrive.com.
