Arkansas Travelers News Release
NORTH LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Travelers have been held scoreless for 17 consecutive innings and counting after the Tulsa Drillers shut out the Travs for a second straight time, with Tulsa starter Samuel Deduno picking up right where last night's starter Jhoulys Chacin left off. Deduno threw a seven-inning complete game shutout in the Drillers 3-0 game one win in a Saturday doubleheader at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Deduno (W, 8-2) held Arkansas (6-13, 34-55) to three hits and two walks, striking out five Travs in the seven-inning contest, one night after Chacin threw eight scoreless innings, striking out six and allowing three hits and three walks. Wil Ortiz got two of the hits off Deduno, including one that literally hit Deduno and went for an infield single. The other two Traveler hits were back-to-back singles to left field in the second inning from Ryan Mount and Ortiz, who were left stranded at second and third.
The Tulsa (8-9, 46-41) offense continued where they left off Friday too, with Anthony Jackson singling to start the game and scoring again in the first inning on Daniel Mayora's double to left. In the second, Cole Garner lined a single to left and stole his first base of the season. Ryan Harvey then stepped to the plate, coming in to the game 1-for-24 after an 0-for-4 performance last night, smashed a two-run home run (12) that bounced off the top of the scoreboard, about 50 feet high and 40 feet behind the left-field fence. Trevor Reckling (L, 5-3) then retired seven of the next eight batters and allowed only three hits over the final five innings, but the damage was already done. He finished with seven innings pitched, three runs allowed on eight hits and two walks, striking out four.
It was the eighth time Arkansas has been shut out this season and third time in the last two weeks. After averaging 7.2 runs per game on the six-game road trip preceding the current homestand, the Travelers have yet to score against Tulsa in two games. Catcher Hank Conger and first baseman Mark Trumbo both saw seven-game hit streaks snapped in the first half of Saturday's doubleheader, which finished in just 1:46.
Amalio Diaz (1-4, 4.22 ERA) is the game two starter for Arkansas, while Andy Graham (2-3, 5.93) will pitch for the Drillers.
