Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Frisco rallied from a 3-1 deficit with three runs in the seventh to defeat Corpus Christi 4-3 Saturday at Whataburger Field before 6,070.
The RoughRiders are 13-8 in the second half of Texas League play and 46-45 overall. The Hooks stand 9-12, 40-51.
Marcus Lemon's two-run single after Chad Tracy scored on a throwing error by Corpus Christi first baseman Mark Ori provided the margin of victory. Tracy's double - his third hit of the night off Kenny Baugh - began the uprising. Johnny Whittleman followed with a walk, sending Baugh to the dugout.
Ryan McKeller (1-2) struck out Adam Fox and Chris Gradoville on six pitches, but Guilder Rodriguez' infield single and the error plated Tracy. Lemon followed with a rap up the middle for the game-tying and winning runs.
Baugh permitted four hits, an earned run and two walks. He struck out five. His counterpart, Kasey Kiker (6-5) lasted seven innings and was accountable for five hits, three runs, two walks and five strikeouts.
Pedro Strop notched his first save with two frames of scoreless relief.
Corpus Christi grabbed a 1-0 first-inning advantage. Wladimir Sutil worked Kiker for a lead-off walk and scooted to second on a passed ball. Two-hole hitter Drew Meyer then drilled a double to right-center.
Baugh's first pitch of the second was deposited into the Hooks bullpen by Tracy for his 15th home run, making it 1-1.
Corpus Christi answered right away when Brian Esposito scored Collin DeLome on a two-out single to left. DeLome was struck by a pitch, stole second and advanced to third after Ori flew to deep center.
Drew Locke's 12th round-tripper of 2009 provided the Hooks with a 3-1 lead through six.
His 81 RBIs lead all minor league players. Locke finished 3-for-4.
Sergio Perez (7-8) takes the mound against Frisco southpaw Michael Kirkman (2-4) in the series and homestand finale Sunday at 6:05. The first 1,500 kids 12-and-under receive a Sammy Bobble Picture Frame, compliments of Landlord Resources.
