Drillers Break Through in Seventh

Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

TULSA - The Drillers rallied for three runs in the seventh inning Friday night to upend Corpus Christi, 4-3, before 7,062 fans in the series opener at ONEOK Field.

The result snapped the Hooks win streak at five. It also ended the Drillers' season-long losing streak at five games. Tulsa was no-hit by San Antonio Thursday night, and had scored only five runs on 11 hits in the three-game series vs. the Missions.

Corpus Christi (32-22) jumped out to an early lead thanks to a pair of unearned runs against Parker Curry in the third.

Hooks starter Framber Valdez worked well with the lead, scattering five singles over the first six innings. The lone Tulsa marker during this span scored on a 4-6-3 double play in the third.

Alex De Goti opened the Corpus Christi third with a double into the left-field corner, and later came home on a sac fly by Josh Rojas, making it 3-1 Hooks.

Tulsa (25-28) erased that edge in the seventh courtesy of four singles and a hit batsman. The Hooks mishandled a double-play opportunity as well. Yusniel Diaz accounted for the go-ahead hit, a two-run single through the left side.

Valdez coaxed 10 groundouts and fanned four while throwing 95 pitches in 6 1/3 frames.

Tulsa relievers Michael Boyle, Logan Ondrusek, and Ariel Hernandez combined to blank the Hooks over 5 2/3 innings.

Trailing 4-3, Myles Straw was hit by a pitch to begin the ninth. Straw promptly stole second and then advanced to third on a grounder by Rojas. After Taylor Jones was hit by a pitch, Hernandez induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

Corpus Christi stranded 10 on the night.

Randy Cesar went 1-for-5, extending his hit streak to an MiLB best 24 games.

Hooks lefty Carlos Hiraldo, promoted Friday afternoon from extended spring training, dispatched five of the six men he faced.

Corpus Christi sends lefty Alelx Winkelman (2-2, 4.58) to the hill Saturday night. Tulsa counters with Mitchell White (0-2, 9.69)
