Tulsa Drillers News Release

Tulsa- An early six-run outburst from Midland was too much for the Tulsa Drillers to overcome Sunday afternoon at ONEOK Field. The RockHounds hit a pair of three-run homers in the second and third innings and held a lead the rest of the way and claimed a 6-4 win in the final game of a 12-game homestand for the Drillers.

Tulsa concluded the long homestand with a winning 7-5 record. The Drillers and RockHounds split their six-game series with three wins each.

Sunday's finale featured scoring in each of the first five innings. The Drillers started the offensive output with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, thanks to a two-run double from James Outman.

The RockHounds quickly erased Tulsa's lead with consecutive three-run innings. After working a scoreless top of the first, Drillers starting pitcher Gus Varland gave up a walk and a single to open the second. Jake Suddleson followed with his sixth home run of the season to put the Hounds in front.

Midland added three more runs in third off reliever Andrew Schwaab. The first two batters of the inning reached safely on an error and a base hit before Edwin Diaz matched Suddleson with a three-run homer to give the RockHounds a 6-2 lead.

The Drillers crept closer with single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, three singles from Outman, Devin Mann and Clayton Daniel produced a run.

In the fifth, Miguel Vargas led off with a base hit and advanced to third on a single by Ryan Noda, who was thrown out at second trying to stretch the hit into a double. After Outman popped out, Mann picked up his second hit of the game when he lined a single into left field, scoring Vargas to make the score 6-4.

From there, both bullpens turned in outstanding work. Midland relievers Austin Briggs and Jesus Zambrano combined to face the minimum 12 batters over the final four innings. Tulsa was held without a hit in those four innings, with the only baserunner coming on a hit by pitch in the sixth.

Tulsa relievers Cyrillo Watson and Bryan Warzek blanked the Rockhounds over the game's final 4.2 innings, allowing only two hits.
