Travs Drop Pair to Cards on Sunday

Springfield, MO - The Arkansas Travelers dropped a pair of games on Sunday to Springfield Cardinals, falling 7-1 in the completion of a suspended game from Saturday night and then 4-1 in seven innings in Sunday's regularly scheduled game. Saturday's game was tied at on when it was resumed and the Travs did not post a hit for the rest of that contest. In game two, Tyler Herb of the Travs and Tyler Pike of the Cardinals dueled until Springfield broke through with two runs in the bottom of the fifth before adding two more in the sixth. Arkansas did not score until the final inning. All told, the Travs went 13 innings between runs from Saturday night through the final frame Sunday.

Moments That Mattered (in Game 1)

* Coming out of the resumption, Patrick Frick struck out looking with the bases loaded to end the top of the fourth keeping the game tied.

* The Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the inning when Jack Anderson threw errantly to the plate trying to get a runner coming home from third. The run scoring on the throwing error was enough room for the Cards as Ramon Santos pitched 4.1 hitless innings with nine strikeouts before the Card offense pulled away late.

Moments That Mattered (in Game 2)

* Springfield's number nine hitter David Vinsky lined a two-run triple to right-center with two on and two out in the fifth to break the scoreless tie.

* Down four in the last inning, the Travs got the tying run to the plate after David Sheaffer's RBI single but Dom Thompson-Williams hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game off Cardinal lefty Tyler Pike who went the distance for Springfield.

* The Travs five-game winning streak was snapped in the opener.

* Herb's six inning complete game in game 2 was the third CG of the season for the Travs.

Up Next

After an off day Monday, the Travs return home to Dickey-Stephens Park on Tuesday night to host the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. Right-hander Alejandro Requena (5-4, 4.70) makes the start on a kids night with $1 ice cream, free train rides and kids run the bases after the game. The game will also be broadcast on AM 920 the Sports Animal, the First Pitch App and milb.tv.
