Dayton, Ohio - Drew Hutchison struck out 10 batters over six scoreless innings as the Lansing Lugnuts defeated the Dayton Dragons 8-2 in the final game of the first half on Sunday afternoon. A crowd of 8,269 attended the game at Fifth Third Field.

The Dragons finished the first half with a record of 35-35. Lansing's victory allowed them to clinch the Midwest League Eastern Division wildcard berth as they edged out Great Lakes by percentage points. Great Lakes lost on Sunday to Fort Wayne.

Lansing got the scoring started with the first batter of the game when Jake Marisnick led off the top of the first with home run to left field, his sixth of the season. Meanwhile, Hutchison did not allow a hit until the fourth inning when Dayton's Ronald Torreyes singled to center field.

Lansing broke the game open in the fourth. Marcus Knecht led off the inning with a homer to left, his eighth of the year, to make it 2-0. Two batters later, Michael Crouse drilled a home run to center with a runner on base to give Lansing a 4-0 lead. Oliver Dominguez added a two-run triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0.

Yorman Rodriguez hit a solo home run for Dayton in the seventh inning, his fifth of the year. Lansing scored an unearned run in the eighth and the Dragons added one in the ninth to close out the scoring.

Dragons starting pitcher Kyle Lotzkar (0-1) was charged with the loss. He worked the first four innings, allowing six hits and seven earned runs with two walks and no strikeouts.

The Dragons finished with six hits. Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with two runs batted in. Torreyes also had two hits and is 4 for 8 in two games with the Dragons.

The Dragons will have a four-day break before opening the second half on Friday at Bowling Green.

The Dragons consecutive game sell-out streak stands at 808, six short of the all-time sports record.
