Dayton, Ohio-Lake County starter Dace Kime and two relievers combined on a five-hit shutout as the Captains defeated the Dayton Dragons 5-0 on Friday night. The Dragons loss ended their first half playoff hopes as West Michigan clinched the wildcard slot in the Eastern Division. The Dragons can still qualify for the playoffs as a second half representative.

The Captains scored one run in the third inning and then added three more in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. They closed out the scoring with one run in the sixth. Brian Ruiz led the Lake County attack with two hits and three runs batted in. Ivan Castillo added a double and a triple.

The Dragons best chance to score came in the seventh inning. Phillip Ervin walked with one out and Sebastian Elizalde singled to right.
