Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Dragons are losing one of their most reliable pitchers at the back end of the bullpen. RHP Blake Hendley has been promoted to the Sarasota Reds of the Florida State League. Hendley started the 2006 season with Sarasota, with a 0-0 record and a 4.05 ERA in five games. Upon joining Dayton on April 21st, Hendley has been a solid closer for the Dragons. Over 22 games with the Miami Valley's team, Hendley pitched 29.2 innings, compiling a 1-3 record with 15 saves and a 3.34 ERA. The right hander earned either a win or a save in his first 12 appearances for the Dragons in 2006.

Originally drafted in the 11th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, Hendley pitched in six games for Billings in 2003 with a 1-4 record and a 4.97 ERA. A shoulder injury delayed the start of his 2004 season, but upon joining the GCL Reds on July 21, 2004, Hendley allowed just two earned runs over 19.2 innings for the season. In 2005, Hendley started the season 7-0 with 14 saves for the Dayton Dragons, before earning a promotion to high-A Sarasota. Hendley was selected to pitch on the Midwest League All-Star team in both 2005 and 2006.

No corresponding move has yet been made to fill Hendley's spot on the roster. The Dragons roster currently has 24 players, one below the maximum amount.
