
Roster Changes as Second Half Begins; Lewis Released, Fraser Added

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Detroit Tigers announced today that West Michigan Whitecaps righthanded pitcher Lavon Lewis has been given his release, and righthanded pitcher Loren Fraser has been promoted to West Michigan from extended spring training.
Lewis joined the Whitecaps on May 20 of this season after starting the year in extended spring training. He appeared in eight games for the Whitecaps as a reliever and did not earn a decision. He had a 2.08 ERA in 13.0 innings pitched. Lewis also spent the majority of the 2005 season with the Whitecaps going 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA in 24 games.
Fraser will make his full-season debut with the Whitecaps after spending 2005 with the short-season Oneonta Tigers. Fraser pitched in 19 games in relief for the O-Tigers, compiled a 2-2 record with a 3.45 ERA and picked up four saves. The 23 year old is from Castro Valley, California and played at the University of California - Santa Barbara.
The Whitecaps begin the second half of the season Thursday, June 22 on the road against the Burlington Bees. The 'Caps return home Monday, June 26 to take on the South Bend Silver Hawks and the number one overall pick of the 2005 draft, Justin Upton. Cameron Maybin, the Tigers top pick from 2005, will be in action for the series after missing Upton's first trip to West Michigan due to his stint on the disabled list. Game time is 7:00 p.m. for the first of the three-game series.
