AUBURN, NY â In front of 1,925 fans on a warm Tuesday evening, the Auburn Doubledays scored six runs on seven hits in a 6-1 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs. Auburn improves their league best record to 52-15 and has won five straight dating back to Friday night. In three straight games against Batavia, Auburn's scored six runs in each, outscoring Batavia 18-4.
Doubledays outfielder Jayce Tingler, in his first game with Auburn after being called up from Pulaski led the Auburn attack going 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Tingler scored the first run of the game with a dynamic slide past Batavia catcher Jose Cortez on a Ryan Roberts RBI single that set the tone for the night. Eugenio Van Camper, the other Doubledays rookie called up from Pulaski finished 1-for-4 with two RBI. Ryan Roberts recorded the lone multi-hit game of the night going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Doubledays pitching held Batavia to one run for the third straight evening. Reliever Shaun Marcum (1-0) earned his first professional win pitching 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts, not allowing a single base runner. Auburn starter Jordy Templet earned a no-decision pitching 3 2/3 innings giving up one run on four hits with two strikeouts.
Batavia center fielder Michael Bourn was the only offensive star for Batavia recording two hits. Muckdogs starter Justin Libey (3-4) took his fourth loss of the season with six innings pitched, six runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
The Pinckney Division Champions jumped on the board in the very first inning. In his first Doubledays at-bat, Jayce Tingler ripped a double into deep right field over Jake Blalock's head. Roberts singled into center scoring Tingler to put Auburn on top 1-0. The speedy Tingler barely beat the throw slipping past Batavia catcher Jose Cortez, sliding his hand over home plate.
Tingler was involved in more Auburn offense in the third inning. With Juan Peralta on second and Tingler on first, Ryan Roberts shot a single out into right field that was bobbled by right fielder Jake Blalock allowing both Peralta and Tingler to score giving Auburn a 3-0 edge.
Batavia's lone run came in the top of the fourth inning. Jordy Templet walked the bases loaded and would walk Cortez, scoring Blalock from third for the first Batavia run, cutting the lead to two. Billy Wheeler would come on in relief and strike out the next batter to end the threat.
Auburn finished Batavia off in the bottom of the sixth plating three runs. Batavia starter Justin Libey with runners on second and third walked Brian Patrick to load the bases for Christian Snavely. Snavely hit a long fly ball to left field that was caught, but allowed Ryan Roberts to score increasing the lead to 4-1. Libey would load the bases a second time moments later after hitting Erik Kratz.
This time it was Auburn newcomer Eugenio Van Camper with a chopping double up the right field line knocking in two that put the nail in Batavia's coffin. Libey would load the bases a third time before forcing Tingler to ground out to end the rally.
