Double Plays Crush Baysox

Bowie, Md. - The Baysox (5-2) recorded a season-low seven hits and grounded into three double plays in a 5-1 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (4-3) Wednesday afternoon. After scoring 35 runs in the first series of the season, the Baysox offense slowed significantly, scoring only six runs in three games against Richmond.

For the third straight game, Richmond scored first in the top of the fourth inning against Baysox starter Eduardo Rodriguez. After three no-hit innings to start the game, Tyler Graham led off the inning with a single to center field. After stealing second base, Graham scored on a Ricky Oropesa double to center field. With two outs, Angel Villalona plated Oropesa with a double to left field to make the score 2-0.

The Flying Squirrels added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Kelby Tomlinson doubled to right field and Graham followed with a walk. After a double steal, both runners scored on a Matt Duffy single to center field to give Richmond a 4-0 lead.

Richmond extended the lead with a run in the top of the sixth inning against Baysox reliever Fabio Castillo. Mario Lisson hit a lead off single to left field and moved to second base on a wild pitch. With two outs, Lisson scored on a single to center field by Ryan Lollis to make the score 5-0.

The Baysox got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning against Richmond reliever Josh Osich to avoid the shutout. Buck Britton hit a one out single to center field and Sharlon Schoop followed with a walk. Dariel Alvarez brought Britton home with a single to left field to make the score 5-1.

Rodriguez pitched five innings and allowed four runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one in the loss. Castillo pitched two innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out two and walking one. Reliever Jose Morillo pitched the final two scoreless innings for the Baysox, allowing one hit while walking one and striking out one.

Richmond starter Ty Blach got the win, pitching six scoreless innings and allowing five hits and one walk.

RHP Tyler Wilson (1-0, 0.00) takes the mound for the Baysox Thursday as the team plays the first game in a four game series with the Akron RubberDucks. He will be opposed by RHP Cory Anderson (1-0, 1.50).

The Baysox depart for a seven game road trip to Akron and Erie Thursday, April 10 and return Thursday, April 17 for a seven game homestand with Erie and Akron.
