San Antonio Missions News Release

San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions continue to be plagued by the double play as of late, grounding into three more tonight in a 4-3 loss to the visiting Arkansas Travelers.

The team has now grounded into 11 double plays in four games bringing their total to 38 on the season, including four this homestand by first baseman Nate Freiman.

Missions' starter Andrew Werner had a rough outing going three and two-thirds innings and giving up four runs on six hits. Arkansas scored all of their runs in the fourth, including a two-out, two-run single by DH Jean Segura.

Travelers' starting pitcher John Hellweg got his second win of the season pitching 5 innings and giving up only one run that came in the third on a Jaff Decker RBI single, his eighth of the season.

The Missions loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth with nobody out, but Travs' reliever Caleb Graham retired the next three batters to end a potential rally. One inning later, Missions' second baseman Dean Anna hit a two-run bomb over the right field fence to bring San Antonio to within one.

The Missions threatened again in the eighth inning, but a Carlos Sosa strikeout left two more on base to add to the game total of 12. The Travelers' bullpen recorded nine strikeouts in the game. In the ninth, Missions' center fielder Reymond Fuentes made a perfect throw to the plate to nab Segura trying to tag, keeping the lead at one.

The San Antonio bullpen has been more than impressive recently, pitching 18 and two-thirds straight scoreless innings on the homestand. With the loss, the Missions fall to eight below .500 at 20-28, their lowest point since May 4 when their record was 10-19.

Game two will be tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. and will feature Arkansas right-hander Ariel Pena (2-4, 3.62 ERA) going against San Antonio's right-hander Hayden Beard (2-3, 8.08 ERA). For the night's promotion, the first 500 kids (12 & under) will receive a free Webkinz Stuffed Animal upon entry into Wolff Stadium presented by Kellogg's.

You can catch all the Missions action on KKYX 680 AM, the home of Missions baseball with Roy Acuff and Mike Saeger.
