Drillers Win in 12 Innings 4-3

Tulsa, OK - It took four hours, but Tulsa found a way to win, outlasting Frisco 4-3 in 12 innings Friday night at ONEOK Field. A wild pitch by Wilfredo Boscan was the difference, as Ben Paulsen scored from third base.

Tulsa got on the board first, following an error and a pair of timely of hits in the bottom of the second. Lead off batter Kiel Roiling reached base on an error by "˜Riders third baseman Alex Buchholz, and moved up to third on a base hit by Kent Matthes. Playing in his first game of the series, Mike Zuanich singled to right making it 1-0 Drillers.

That put a halt to the scoring until the top of the eighth inning. With the "˜Riders looking for baserunners, Zach Zaneski worked a walk, then moved up to second following a free pass to Guilder Rodriguez. Engel Beltre followed up with a single to give the visitors their first hit since the top of the second.

Looking at the bases loaded, Leury Garcia came through in the clutch for Frisco, doubling home Zaneski and Rodriguez, and advancing Beltre to third.

With an open base, Drillers manager Duane Espy made the decision to intentionally walk Jurickson Profar, however Zach Simons walked Mike Olt to force in Beltre, and give Frisco a 3-1 lead. In the inning, all nine RoughRiders came to the plate.

However the Drillers would tie things up in the home half of the inning, sending six men to bat. After issuing a walk to Angelys Nina, Nolan Arenado doubled his teammate to third.

To set up a lefty-lefty matchup with Ben Paulsen, Steve Buechele brought in Joseph Ortiz to replace Carlos Pimentel. Ortiz jumped ahead in the count 0-1, but Paulsen singled on the subsequent pitch, scoring Nina, and allowing Arenado to reach third. One batter later, Kiel Roling tied the game at three, with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Neither side in the ninth inning sending the game to extra innings.

Both sides missed out on scoring opportunities in the 11th inning, however Tulsa capitalized in the 12th. Ben Paulsen earned a one out walk, and moved to third on a double by Kent Matthes, that went off the glove of Alex Buchholz. Falling behind to Michael Mitchell, "˜Riders reliever Wilfredo Boscan (2-2) threw a wild pitch, allowing the winning run to score.

The loss went to Wilfredo Boscan, who pitched the final 1.2 innings. He surrendered an earned run on two hits, and threw a pair of wild pitches. Michael Mabry (3-1) earned the win in relief pitching a scoreless top of 12th. In the game Tulsa used eight different pitchers, while the "˜Riders used five.

The RoughRiders will travel to Northwest Arkansas Friday night, before beginning a three game series with Northwest Arkansas Saturday night. Barret Loux (9-0, 2.50) gets the start for Frisco, as the former Texas A&M standout tries to become the first pitcher in the minors or the majors to reach 10 wins. He is opposed by Naturals southpaw Chris Dwyer (3-4, 4.91), who combined on a no-hitter earlier this season. First pitch is slated for 7:05 and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com.
