Jumping out to an early lead the Calgary Vipers (33-23) also piled on the offence late to defeat the Edmonton Capitals (30-24) 16-3 in the second game of a double-header featuring two seven inning contests at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Overall the Vipers collected 17 hits and added to a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning with two runs, in the fifth with seven tallies, and in the sixth with another three to round out the scoring. At the plate C.J. Ziegler led the way with two home runs for four runs batted in while Jimmy Rohan knocked in three and in his debut Lino Garcia went deep for two RBI. With the win the Vipers increase their lead in the North Division to two games over the Capitals.

Stephen Whalen (6-3) earned the win with five innings while allowing three runs. Out of the bullpen Dan Morari tossed a scoreless inning while Claudio Galva posted a perfect final inning including two strikeouts. Taking the loss was Mike Hrynio (0-3) who allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning before leaving due to injury.

Calgary opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Jonny Kaplan walked, Wilver Perez singled, Jimmy Rohan knocked in a run with a base hit, Perez scored on a wild pitch, and with two outs Drew Miller drove in a run with a single for a 3-0 advantage.

Edmonton got a run back in the second as Brent Metheny, Enrique Cruz, and Nick Valdez all singled to load the base while Metheny scored when Tom Collaro hit into a double-play for a 3-1 score.

C.J. Ziegler restored the Vipers three run lead at 4-1 in the third frame with a mammoth solo home run for his 16th big fly of the season.

In the fourth inning Calgary added to the lead when Kaplan singled, Perez doubled him home, and Rohan singled in one for a 6-1 advantage.

The Vipers continued to score in the fifth for a 13-1 lead as Miller walked, Lino Garcia hit a two-run shot for his fifth of the season, Jeff Giacomini walked, Stephen Whalen and Kaplan singled to load the bases, Rohan singled in one, Whalen scored on a wild pitch, and Ziegler hit a three-run homer for his second of the game and 17th of the season.

The Capitals got a couple runs back in the sixth frame when Todd Linden tripled and Metheny homered for a 13-3 score.

Calgary also scored in the sixth inning as Dan Morari singled, Kaplan walked, Perez drove in one with a double, and two more runs scored on a throwing error for a 16-3 advantage.

The Vipers conclude this series in Calgary at Foothills Stadium against the Edmonton Capitals on Friday July 22nd at 6:30.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
