Capitals And Vipers Beat Up On Each Other In Doubleheader

Edmonton Capitals News Release
Calgary, AB - It seems like lately when the Edmonton Capitals and Calgary Vipers duke it out, one team comes out with a lopsided win. The provincial rivals split a doubleheader Thursday in Calgary with the Caps taking the opener 15 - 8 while the Vipers responded with a 16 - 3 victory in the night cap. The first game was a make-up game for the rained out contest Tuesday. Edmonton batted through the order in the third inning posting 9 runs and added another 6 runs in the sixth inning to deflate the comeback the Vipers were mounting. Caps centre fielder Steve Brown lead the way with a 2-run home run and 4 RBI. The Caps racked up 18 hits with both Matt Rogelstad and Todd Linden leading the way with 3 hits each. Rory Shortell improved his record to 6 - 3.
Former Viper Brent Matheny was a bright spot in Edmonton's loss going 2 for 3 with a 2-run home run. He even pitched an inning of relief later in the game recording one strikeout.
There's just one game remaining in this grueling stretch where the Capitals and Vipers play each other 11 straight games. Edmonton will open a 7 game home stand Saturday against the Chico Outlaws. That'll be followed by another Family Pack Sunday presented by Dental Choice and 630 CHED. The first 500 fans will receive a Captain Capital bobblehead. This one-of-a-kind collectible is also presented by Dental Choice and conveniently doubles as a toothbrush holder.
The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat and are available on a pro-rated basis. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
