PORTLAND - Dave Doster homered for the third consecutive game but his sixth-inning solo blast wasn't enough as the Nashville Sounds dropped a 2-1 decision to the Portland Beavers on Tuesday evening at PGE Park in the second game of a four-game series.

The Sounds (70-53) did not lose any ground in the PCL East, however, as second-place New Orleans fell to Tucson, 5-4, earlier in the evening.

Portland grabbed an early lead with a pair of first-inning runs against Nashville starter Justin Reid. Bernie Castro led off with a single and stole second before Khalil Greene drew a walk. Tagg Bozied plated Castro with a single to score the Beavers' first run and Xavier Nady followed with a sacrifice fly to make the advantage 2-0.

Doster cut the lead in half with his eighth longball of the season in the sixth, becoming the first Nashville player to go deep in three consecutive games this season.

The Sounds, who left eight runners on base in the contest, missed a golden opportunity in the top of the seventh when they placed runners on second and third with none out and failed to get a run in.

Nashville left-fielder Tony Alvarez cut down the Beavers' attempt to add an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning when he gunned down Ben Risinger at the plate when the Portland third baseman attempted to score from second on former Sound Yamid Haad's single.

Portland starter Mike Bynum (6-9) allowed only one run and registered a season-best 10 strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings to pick up the victory. Reid (3-6) took the loss after allowing two runs over six innings of work. Brandon Villafuerte tossed a perfect ninth to close out the contest for the Beavers and pick up his ninth save of the year.

The teams meet again at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday evening for the third game of the four-game set. Nashville southpaw Dave Williams (5-3, 4.37) takes the hill to face Portland right-hander Clay Condrey (3-2, 3.30).
