August 13, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release

John Patterson threw a nine inning complete game shutout Wednesday night in a 1-0 Tucson victory at New Orleans. Patterson retired the first nine men he faced, allowed just five hits while walking two and striking out three to improve to 8-4.

Patterson threw his first complete game of his career earlier this year in a seven inning effort July 18 against Edmonton at Tucson Electric Park.

Tucson improved to 64-61, the first time the team has been three games above .500 since the first week of the season when the Sidewinders were 5-2. The win also evened Tucson's road record at .500 for the first time this year since starting 1-8 away from Tucson Electric Park.

The Sidewinders plated the game's only run in the top of the third. Tim Olson started the inning with a single off Zephyr starter Pete Munro. Ramirez was a late insertion into the starting lineup replacing Luis Terrero.

The defensive play of the game came in the bottom of the sixth when the Zephyrs had runners at the corners and one out. The cleanup hitter Jason Lane hit a fly ball to the right fielder DeVore. DeVore fired a one-hop strike to the plate where Jeff Waldron applied the tap to a sliding Kyle Logan to end the inning.

Tucson improved to 64-61. The Sidewinders and the Zephyrs will finish off the four-game series Thursday night with a 5:05 start (Tucson time) at Zephyr Field. The game will be tape delayed on AM 990 KTKT until 6:00 p.m. Scott Barber (0-0 0.00) will make his first start for Tucson after being called up from Class A Lancaster. Bob Scanlon (1-6 4.14) will start for New Orleans.
