KARLETON THOMAS ASSIGNED TO DORADOS
HIDALGO, TX: March 12, 2004 â The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 (af2) were assigned offensive and defensive lineman Karleton Thomas to their inaugural 2004 squad by the af2 offices.
"Karleton adds af2 experience to our line," said Dorados Head Coach Gary Gussman. "He was a free agent recommended by players and I look for his experience to help out in the trenches."
Thomas, a 6'5" 278-pound lineman comes to the Rio Grande Valley after playing last season with the Greensboro Prowlers. He played in 11 games with the Prowlers and had 17 tackles (7 unassisted), a sack and a forced fumble. The 26 year-old was a teammate of Dorados lineman Raymond James.
A native of Kankakee, Illinois, Thomas spent his college career at the University of Illinois and at Southwest Missouri State University. He redshirted as a freshman at Illinois in 1996 and then played in all 11 games during the 1997 season, starting the last six as a defensive end. Thomas switched to defensive tackle in 1998 and had 17 tackles (12 unassisted) in 11 games played. His final season with the Illini was in 1999, and he tallied 7 tackles (4 unassisted) and a sack in 10 games. Thomas transferred the following season (2000) to Southwest Missouri State and played in 9 games. He was in on 31 tackles and 13 were unassisted, 6 were for a loss and one was for a sack. Thomas was a top recruit out of Kankakee High School and was listed as a top prospect by Bluechip Magazine (top 10 defensive linemen in Midwest) and by SuperPrep (top 11 prospects in Midwest, top 20 defensive line prospects in the nation) after grabbing 70 tackles and 6 sacks his senior season.
Thomas is the 21st player the Dorados have announced on their roster, joining Tracy Archer (WR/LB), Marcus Bradley (def. specialist), Gary Briggs (WR/DB) Will Burch (QB), Spencer Conley (OL./DL), Tim Cook (OL/DL), Nick Davis (def. specialist), Kevin De Los Santos (OL/DL), Michael Duncan (WR/DB), Rico Gardner (WR/LB), Abel Gonzalez (QB) Preston Hartfield (WR/DB), Eric Houle (K), Raymond James (OL/DL), Herman Lovett (FB/LB), Brent McDonald (FB/LB), Jason Null (FB/LB), Manwell Talbert (WR/LB), Anthony Terrell (WR/DB) and Donte Wells (WR/DB).
