Central Valley Coyotes News Release
Head Coach Cree Morris
On the first day of camp "Camp was interesting; we had a lot of good players out here who were excited to be on the field. We have an interesting group of rookies that we need to get adjusted to this [arena] game, but I'll tell you what they showed a lot out here today just working hard."
On having open practices "I think it gives people an opportunity to see what this team and this game is all about, especially people who don't know about the arena game. I think the people that do come down really get to see what we're trying to accomplish out here in Fresno."
On his philosophy of training camp "Basically we want to teach the players as many of the fundamentals as possible, so when they get under pressure in a game they can perform at a very high level. We shoot for balance. We want to try and run enough, but not too much. We want to try to pass enough, but not too much. And to practice plenty without running ourselves into the ground."
On the quarterback situation "I have three quarterbacks in camp right now and they are all basically on even par right now. There all battling for the number one spot and I'm only going to be able to keep two. It's all about getting these players to understand my philosophy at quarterback and how I want them to react in game situations."
On player standouts today "Marvin Brown looked really good today at practice, Fontez Jefferson and Howard Maxwell also made really athletic plays today."
Offensive/Defensive Lineman Ricky Leung-Wai
On the first day of practice "The first day of practice was very good, it was very intense and affective. I learned a lot of good techniques from our Operator George Chung, Cree Morris and our whole coaching staff."
On personal goals for training camp "Technique, technique and technique. The sounder I can be fundamentally the more naturally the technique will come to me in the game."
Offensive/Defensive Lineman Zach LaMonda
On having the advantage of paying for Morris "Being able to play for Coach Morris for two years gives me a little advantage because I know his system and I know what he's looking for. It's also good for the rookies who have not played arena football before, they can ask me questions to adjust to the game."
Wide Receiver/Defensive Back Thomas Bennett
On two-a-day practices " I feel two-a-day practices are going to get me in shape faster and give me a good workout."
