Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release

SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters snapped a four-game losing streak with a lopsided 10-1 victory over Somerset in the series finale. Jeff Dominguez blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach. The win bolsters the Skeeters' record to 60-67 on the year and puts the club a win away from the 300th win in team history. Despite the victory tonight, Sugar Land was mathematically eliminated from the postseason with the win by the Lancaster Barnstormers.

Michael Nix turned in another stupendous outing with the Skeeters. The right-hander scattered eight hits for a run with two walks and six strikeouts over six strong innings.

The Skeeters turned the tables on the Patriots in the series finale, jumping out to an early lead. Delwyn Young extended his on-base streak to 23 games with a walk in the bottom of the second. Johan Limonta followed with a single to shallow right-center before a fielder's choice from Kevin Russo cut down Young at third. After Patrick Palmeiro worked a walk, Patriots pitcher, R.J. Seidel threw a wild pitch, allowing Limonta to trot home and give the Skeeters a 1-0 lead.

Sugar Land expanded the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third. Willy Taveras was hit-by-pitch to open the inning and stole second with two outs to get into scoring position. Young poked a slow-roller back through the middle of the infield to score the speedy outfielder from second.

Somerset cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth on a solo home run from Matt Fields, but the Skeeters answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to push the lead to 4-1. Renny Osuna poked a two-out single through the right-side of the infield before stealing second and advancing to third on an errant throw by the catcher. Kelly Cross picked up his second RBI of the year with a double into the right-center alley to score Osuna. Taveras hit a bloop single between the shortstop and center fielder to score Cross and move the score to 4-1.

After hitting for the cycle earlier in the series, Jeff Dominuez capped off the finale with a bang. In the bottom of the seventh, Kelly Cross laced a single down the left field line while Taveras singled through the left-side of the infield to start the inning. Denny Almonte worked a walk to load the bases before Dominguez hammered Angel Reyes' offering to right to clear the bases with a grand slam, increasing the lead to 8-1. Osuna followed with a two-run double later in the inning to inflate the advantage to 10-1.
