Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Central Islip, NY. September 7th 2015) ---Coming off a very disappointing loss, the day before, Southern Maryland cashed in with timely hitting, and very good pitching en route to a 3-2 victory over the Long Island Ducks.
RHP Daryl Thompson went 6.1 innings, giving up two runs, on seven hits, and striking out seven to pick up the victory. Orlando Santos, Justin Berg, and Cody Eppley each with scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Offensively Southern Maryland put two runs on the board in the top of the second. Casey Frawley drove in Jamar Walton with an RBI triple, and that was then followed by Antone DeJesus sacrifice fly to left field to score Frawley to make it 2-0. In the top of the sixth, Southern Maryland added a much needed insurance run when Jovan Rosa singled in Jovan Rosa. It was DeJesus second run batted in of the day.
Long Island was out-hit offensive today, with their runs coming in the fifth on a Cody Puckett solo homerun, and again in the seventh on an Elmer Reyes homerun over the wall in right field, but were never able to tie the game or get over the hump thanks to the pitching staff of the Blue Crabs.
Catcher Keith Castillo stays hot, as he is now hitting .390 in his last 11 games after going 1-4 this afternoon. Outfielder Antone DeJesus is riding a season high 11 game hitting streak after going 1-3 with two runs driven in this afternoon.
Southern Maryland returns home tomorrow for a six game homestand, beginning with Lancaster. The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M. It is the final homestand of the season for the Blue Crabs.
