Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(York, PA - September 6, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (27-29, 53-73) were defeated by the York Revolution (31-24, 55-70) 7-4 at Santander Stadium on Sunday night and now have now lost the first three of the four game series as each ballclub continues to make a second half post-season push. Bridgeport will look to salvage the finale tomorrow as they close out their seven-game, two state trip away from home.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher David Anderson picked up a no-decision, lasing five and one-third innings, giving up three runs (two earned runs) on nine hits, walking and striking out two while surrendering one home run and hitting a batter. York Starting Pitcher Rommie Lewis also did not factor in the game's final outcome, tossing six innings, allowing four runs (three earned runs) on ten hits, striking out three while not walking a batter. Former Bluefish Luis Perdomo (4-4) picked up the win out of the bullpen with a scoreless inning. Steven Ames (1-3) suffered the loss after just one-third of an inning of relief, surrendering four runs on four hits while allowing one home run. Mike DeMark walked a tightrope in the ninth inning issuing two free passes but did not allow a run to earn his second save of the season.
Bridgeport took a 2-0 lead off Lewis in the top half of the fourth inning on a two-run base knock to left field off the bat of CJ Retherford, plating Josh Prince and Welington Dotel. The 'Fish added to the lead in the fifth on an RBI double by Luis Rodriguez, scoring Wilson Batista, who began the rally with a leadoff two base hit of his own, and halfway through the contest the visitors on the scoreboard had a 3-0 cushion.
York responded with three unanswered runs in the middle innings to tie the game moving to the top of the seventh, where Bridgeport would regain the edge 4-3 on a run-scoring single by Jobduan Morales, bringing home Andres Rodriguez with the go-ahead run after he led off with a base hit to center field. The Bluefish were clinging to that same slim margin until the home half of the eighth inning, when the Revolution took back the lead for good with a four-spot on yet another late-inning rally off the Bridgeport bullpen. Telvin Nash began the comeback with a game-tying leadoff home run on the seventh pitch of the at-bat against Ames, his third roundtripper of the series and the eighth allowed by the 'Fish pitching staff in the first three games played between the two teams. James Simmons, also playing against his former club, gave the Revolution the lead for good with an RBI double, scoring Nick Ferdinand. Eric Patterson drove home Simmons with a double, and would score the fourth run of the inning on a throwing error by catcher Luis Rodriguez, and in one fell swoop York suddenly had an 7-4 lead and never looked back, handing Bridgeport their fifth consecutive loss. All-Star Bryan Sabatella singled in the fourth inning, extending his on-base streak to a season-high 29 consecutive games, with 27 of the 29 coming in a 'Fish uniform. Andres Rodriguez and Batista led the way for the Bluefish with a pair of hits each.
Bridgeport concludes their series with the York Revolution on Monday night. The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday, September 8th when they welcome in the Sugar Land Skeeters for a three-game midweek series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Come out to watch a Grandma Beauty Pageant in honor of Silver Sluggers Program. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a Bluefish Alternate Logo Collector's Pin.
