WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - An hour-long patch of rain showers delayed game five of a six-game homestand at Truist Stadium, in which the Dash slid past the Hickory Crawdads in a 2-0 victory.

Johan Dominguez (2-2) took the hill for the Dash, spinning a scoreless performance through six innings, allowing only one hit and six strikeouts.

Luck ran short for southpaw Avery Weems (0-2), who was handed the ball for Hickory. The Dash jumped on the board in the first after a Yolbert Sanchez drew a walk, advanced to second on a liner from Alex Destino, and scored on a double scorched to left by Luis Curbelo. Curbelo put up another RBI in the third on a double to the left field corner, scoring Sanchez again to put the Dash up 2-0.

Controversy struck before the beginning of the seventh inning, as umpires ejected Sal Biasi for use of a foreign substance before Biasi even threw a pitch. The ejection resulted in a socially distanced shouting match between the two benches, including some words exchanged directly between managers Ryan Newman and JJ Johnson. Warnings were issued to de-escalate the altercation, and play resumed.

The Dash bullpen did their job by pitching into effective contact, counting on a locked-in Dash defense to propel them to victory. Caleb Freeman closed the ninth to pen his team-leading third save of the season, securing the 2-0 victory to put the Dash ahead 3-2 in the series. Dominguez nabbed his second win of the season, while Avery Weems took his second loss of the season.

The Dash and Dads end the series tomorrow in a 2:00 p.m. game from Truist Stadium. JJ Johnson will call on Ronny Henriquez to start for Hickory. Ryan Newman has yet to announce the starter for Winston-Salem.
