Greenville batters managed just five hits on the night, only one extra-base hit, a double in the ninth inning by Luke Bandy. Tyler Esplin reached base three times, two walks and a single. The team was a combined 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
The Braves plated the first runs of the game in the third inning. Garrison Schwartz connected on an RBI groundout, Cody Milligan and Bryace Ball both roped RBI doubles and Michael Harris grounded an RBI single to make the score 4-0 Rome.
Rome added to its lead, 5-0, in the fifth on two Greenville throwing errors on the same play with a runner on first.
Greenville got on the board with two runs in the eighth inning. Christian Koss walked to lead off the frame and advanced to second on a Esplin single. Tyreque Reed added to his league-leading RBI total with an RBI single to center field, putting runners at first and second. Esplin then advanced to third on a fly ball to right off the bat of Devlin Granberg. A hitter later, Tyler Dearden hit a sac fly to left, plating Esplin and cutting the Rome lead to 5-2.
The home team, however, got a run back in the bottom half of the frame. Bryce Ball began the inning with a double and later scored on a Beau Phillip RBI groundout. Rome led, 6-2.
The finale is set for Sunday at 1 pm at State Mutual Stadium. Greenville will throw their game one starter, Chris Murphy, while the Braves will send Tanner Gordon to the hill.
