The RiverDogs (6-10) pushed across three runs in the second off Crawdads starter RHP Joe Wieland (0-2, 1.93 ERA) on a string of four singles and a walk. Wieland, who had surrendered only one run in his previous three starts, lasted the first three innings before giving way to LHP Robbie Erlin.

Charleston starter LHP Shaeffer Hall (1-0, 0.71) kept the Crawdads offense in check until the bottom of the fifth, when Hickory (8-8) got on the board. With two on and two out, SS Leury Garcia bounced an RBI single through the middle of the infied, scoring C Zach Zaneski from second and cutting the deficit to 3-1.

RiverDogs RF Taylor Grote, though, matched that run with a solo home run to right against Erlin in the top of the sixth, stretching the lead back to three, 4-1. It was the first run given up by Erlin this season, and the only one he gave up during three relief innings tonight.

The Crawdads attempted another come back in the bottom of the sixth, when they scored two runs. LF Cristian Santana kept the inning alive, reaching on a throwing error charged to 3B Garrison Lassiter. 1B Ed Koncel then drew a walk, putting runners on at first and second, before Zaneski smacked a two-run double to right-center, scoring both runners and making it a one-run game, 4-3.

However, the RiverDogs weathered the storm, got out of the inning in the narrow lead and tacked on insurance runs against RHP Kyle Ocampo in the seventh and eighth, moving ahead by three runs. The Crawdads got runners in scoring position in the seventh and eighth, and had 2B Edwin Garcia lead off the ninth with a single, but couldn't pull of another late-game comeback win, as Charleston hung on, 6-3.

Wieland was tagged with the loss for the Crawdads, while Hall registered the win and RHP Ryan Flannery recorded the save for the RiverDogs.
