Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN -- The Saltdogs are proud to announce that the Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of RHP Clayton Cook.
In 10 relief appearances for Lincoln, the 25-year old struck out 16 while walking just two. Cook sported a 1-0 record with a 0.90 ERA, allowing one run on six hits over 10 innings.
During the Saltdogs road series in Wichita earlier this week, Cook dominated the league's best-hitting offense by striking out six batters in 2 2/3 perfect innings.
An Amarillo, Texas native, Cook grew up rooting for the Rangers. He is expected to report to Class-A Advanced Myrtle Beach.
Originally a ninth round draft pick by the Cleveland Indians, Cook signed with the Saltdogs on July 4.
Cook becomes the second Saltdogs player to sign with an MLB organization this season, joining Christian Ibarra (Minnesota Twins).
The Saltdogs have now sold 25 players to MLB systems since 2011.
