
RailCats Down AirHogs 10-5 in Series Opener

CANYON, Texas - The AirHogs dropped their 4-game series opener to the Gary-Southshore RailCats 10-5 Friday. The game was played at Wilder Park on the campus of West Texas A&M. The AirHogs got out to an early lead on a leadoff home run by Leon Byrd in the bottom half of the 1st off RailCats starter Karl Triana. After Gary tied the score against Texas starter Sam Martin in the top of the 2nd, Mike Miller reclaimed the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd.
Gary re-seized the advantage with 3 runs in the the 3rd and 4 runs in the 5th to run their advantage to 9-2. The RailCats were led by Alex Crosby, who finished 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs, and Cameron Newell, who finished 3 for 6. Gary outhit the AirHogs 20-11.
Nick Akins, Cody Lenahan, and Cory Morales hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the 7th, but the team would cut the lead to no less than 4. The home runs were the 4th of the season for Akins, the 8th for Lenahan, and the 3rd of the season for Morales.
Gary (35-31) and the AirHogs (24-42) meet for a doubleheader tomorrow at Wilder Park starting at 2 pm. LHP Griffin Russell and RHP Matt Shepherd are expected to start for the AirHogs.
