'Dogs Fall Short of Sweep against Monarchs

LINCOLN, Nebraska - LF Aaron Takacs went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBIs, but the 'Dogs lost 4-2 to the Kansas City Monarchs at Haymarket Park on Sunday afternoon.

Takacs hit his fifth homer of the year to open the scoring with two outs in the 2nd inning, and he went 3-for-6 with three RBIs in the series.

Kansas City (46-33) took a lead on a two-run homer from RF Micker Adolfo in the 4th inning. Adolfo went 6-for-11 with two homers, three extra-base hits and eight RBIs over the three-game series.

Lincoln (39-40) tied the game on an RBI single from Takacs with the bases loaded and one out in the 4th, but after RF Connor Panas scored on the play Adolfo threw out 3B Will Kengor trying to score and the game remained tied, 2-2.

Kansas City took a lead on a first-pitch homer in the 6th inning from C Allante Hall - his first professional homer and third hit. Hall came in after starter Gavin Collins left the game in the 4th inning following his second double.

The Monarchs added an insurance run on an RBI double from C Chris Herrmann in the 7th inning.

RHP Josh Roeder tossed a quality start, allowing three runs on 10 hits with no walks and five strikeouts. RHP Carter Hope allowed one run over two innings while LHP David Zoz pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

The 'Dogs now hit the road for four games in three days starting Tuesday in Fargo, ND. The 'Dogs and Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will finish the suspended game from June 4th beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and then play a seven-inning game after the completion of the first game.

Fans can watch all the games on aabaseball.tv, but radio coverage Tuesday begins at 6:00 p.m. with a join-in-progress broadcast of the first game on KFOR FM 101.5/1240 AM.
