Chicago Dogs News Release
The Dogs fell behind the Goldeyes 7-1 after 2 innings, battled back, but came up just short, falling to Winnipeg in the first of three games north of the border at Shaw Park. Josh Altmann gave the Dogs an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single to center in the top of the first. Winnipeg would tie it on an Max Murphy RBI single in their half of the first. In the second, Winnipeg would score 6 times off the American Association ERA leader and reigning AA Pitcher of the month Tyler Palm. Palm walked three batters, gave up a two-run single to Dayson Croes and a 3 run HR to Murphy, making it 7-1.
The Dogs would get two back in the 3rd on a bases loaded 2 RBI single from Cody Bohanek, tack on another in the 4th with a Brennan Metzger single and Altmann would hit his 9th HR of the year, a towering blast to left bringing the Dogs within two at 7-5. That's as close as they would get however, as three Winnipeg relievers would combine to shut out Chicago for the final 4 innings with Samuel Adames pitching a perfect 9th, earning his 3rd save of the year. Landan Bourassa picked up the win for the Goldeyes, allowing five runs and 12 hits over five innings, while Palm would suffer his first loss of the year for the Dogs, giving up seven earned rungs and eight hits over 5 innings, throwing 97 pitches.
Three Key Plays-
1. Groundball by Dayson Croes off the glove of Matt Bottcher allowing two runs to score and keeping the inning alive for Max Murphy, who would hit a 3 run HR in the 2nd.
2. Rob Klinchock would strike out Luke Mangieri with the tying run on 1st base and two outs in the 7th.
3. Groundball by Bottcher ticketed for RF in the first inning hits Josh Altmann, blowing the play dead and ruling Altmann out due to interference, next batter, Cody Bohanek would ground out, leaving the Dogs with just one run.
