Reno Aces News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Dodgers scored a late run to edge the Reno Aces (@Aces), 2-1, Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Dodgers (76-50) pinch-hitter Buck Britton hit a bouncer to first that he legged out for an infield single, forcing in the go-ahead run to give Oklahoma City a 2-1 lead.
The Aces (61-65) started the scoring in the first inning when red-hot Mike Freeman (@MikeBFree5) began the game with a double to left-field. After Nick Buss (@chilibuss) moved him to third on a fly ball, Danny Dorn drove him in with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
Aces hurler Blayne Weller kept the Dodgers off the board in the first two innings. He worked out of a second-and-third, one-out jam by striking out Elliot Johnson and getting pitcher Joe Wieland on a line-out to short.
With two outs in the bottom of the third, Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager evened the game with a solo homer to left-field.
Wieland settled in and kept the Aces off the scoreboard, and the bases in general. After a Jamie Romak double in the first, Reno put just one runner on base against the Bishop Manogue High School grad. Wieland allowed one run on two hits in six innings and picked up the win, his tenth of the season.
Weller was nearly as impressive on the mound for the Aces. The right-hander allowed two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. The second run on Weller's line came when Kevin Munson (@GOTMUNEY) allowed the run-scoring base hit to Britton in the sixth.
The Dodgers bullpen did the job the rest of the way. The combination of Ramon Troncoso, Daniel Coulombe and Chin-hui Tsao shut the Aces down in the later innings. Reno did not manage a hit after Romak's first inning double.
The series finale is set for Saturday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Right-hander Aaron Blair (6-1, 3.33) starts for the Aces against left-hander Eric Surkamp (6-3, 3.56) for the Dodgers. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. PST.
The Aces return to Reno for an eight-game homestand set to begin on Sunday against Nashville. Group outings are on-sale now at www.RenoAces.com or by calling (775) 334-4700. For up-to-date news and notes throughout the season, follow the club on Twitter (@aces) or like the team on Facebook.
