Pestano Extends Scoreless Innings Streak in Loss

SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 20) - The Iowa Cubs scored six runs in the fourth inning to break the game open on their way to a 13-2 victory over Salt Lake Thursday night at Smith's Ballpark. Bees starter Adam Wilk lasted just three and two-thirds, allowing seven runs - only two earned - as the Iowa Cubs took advantage of three Salt Lake errors in a fourth inning that lasted 36 minutes. Christian Villanueva, Taylor Teagarden and Mike Olt each homered for Iowa. Kyle Kubitza was a bright spot in the Bees lineup going 1-for-2 with a sac fly to put the Bees on the board in the first, followed by a solo shot in the third.

Wilk took the loss in the contest to drop his season record to 5-10. Kurt Spomer pitched the final out the fourth and gave up three runs (two earned) in two thirds of an inning. Jeremy McBryde struck out two and allowed no runs - his third consecutive scoreless outing, and Vinnie Pestano extended his scoreless inning streak to 18.1 innings with a another scoreless outing, striking out three batters in the ninth. The Bees left 13 runners on base as the team collected eight hits and walked another seven times. Collin Cowgill went two-for-four and Matt Joyce finished 1-for-3 with a walk as the outfield duo continued their injury rehab assignments.
