Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Apparently not winning a weekly arenafootball2 league award is not a bad thing after all. At least that was the case for the 2003 af2 Offensive Player of the Year and is the case for the 2004 af2 Ironman of the Year.

Despite not winning a weekly league award, Quad City Steamwheelers wide receiver/defensive back Tim Dodge was named af2 Ironman of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday.

Dodge joins former Steamwheelers quarterback Tony Zimmerman as the second Steamwheelers player to not win a weekly league award, but earn a player of the year award. Last season Zimmerman was named af2 Offensive Player of the Year.

In his second season with the Steamwheelers, Dodge finished fifth in the league in receptions with 108 and second in receiving yards with 1,596, with 24 of those going for touchdowns. He also added 89 kick return yards. In nine games this season, Dodge hauled in over 100 receiving yards and had two touchdowns in nine of the first 10 games.

On the flip side of the ball, Dodge was second on the team in tackles with 48.5, while picking off five passes and returning them for a combined 64 yards and breaking up 10 passes.

Dodge, who has rightfully earned the nickname the "60-Minute Man" as he plays almost all 60 minutes of every game, was named U.S. Army Ironman of the Game in half of the Steamwheelers 16 regular season games this season, including the final seven games of the regular season. He was also dubbed Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game against Tennessee Valley on April 17.

Last week, Dodge was named to the all-af2 first team for the second straight season. His two-year success in the "deuce" has NFL teams calling Dodge's way as the Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers have all been in contact with Dodge's agent and requested game film.

Dodge is the second Steamwheelers player to earn the Ironman of the Year honor as former ‘Wheelers wide receiver/defensive back Xavier Patterson won the award in 2000. Other Steamwheelers besides Dodge, Zimmerman and Patterson to win a league player of the year honor are: 2000 offensive lineman/defensive lineman Jamarr Ward, 2000 defensive specialist Cornelius Coe and 2001 quarterback Jay McDonagh.
