Tim Dodge claims Ironman of the Year

August 24, 2004 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

NAPLES, Fla. - Quad City wide receiver/defensive back TIM DODGE (5-10, 190, Iowa) has been named Ironman of the Year by the af2 head coaches and members of the media.

Dodge, 26, sparked a Steamwheelers offense that ranked eighth best in af2, averaging 50.1 points per game. He led the team in receptions (108), receiving yards 1,596 yards (1,596) and was second with 24 touchdowns. His 108 receptions was fifth best in the league while his 1,596 receiving yards ranked second best. Dodge recorded at least two touchdowns in a game ten times this season, and he totaled more than 100 yards receiving in nine games.

In true Ironman fashion Dodge also excelled on the defensive side of the ball, finishing second on the team with 48.5 tackles (42UA-13A). He also tallied 10 passes broken-up and five interceptions. His efforts helped the Steamwheeler defense finish third best in the league in points allowed (38.6).

Playing both ways is nothing new for Dodge, as he played both wide receiver and cornerback at Iowa. He was also an All-American track star during his time as a Hawkeye.

Dodge, in his second af2 season, won Ironman of the Game honors in eight of Quad City's sixteen regular season games, including earning the title in each of the Steamwheelers' final seven games. He earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game honors in Week 3 against Tennessee Valley. In that game Dodge caught eight passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed once for three yards and returned one kickoff seven yards.

This is the second time in Steamwheelers history a player has won Ironman of the Year. In 2000 Xavier Patterson earned the award for the Steamwheelers.
