Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - After the Cougars took Friday's series opener, the Lake Country DockHounds evened the series with a 17-6 win on Saturday night at Northwestern Medicine Field. Lake Country scored the 17 runs on 12 hits, including six extra-base hits.
The DockHounds (10-16) got on the board early against Cougars' (13-14) starter CJ Carter (1-1). Lake Country put up four runs in the first inning, thanks to a two-run triple by Dustin Woodcock and RBI singles from Marcus Chiu and Omara Meregildo.
In the bottom of the second, the Cougars cut into the Lake Country lead against starter Randall Delgado (1-0). After TJ Bennett and Jimmy Kerrigan hit back-to-back singles, Jonah Davis drove Bennett in with another single to make it 4-1. The Cougars added two more in the frame on a single by Gio Brusa and a groundout by Galli Cribbs Jr.
After the Cougars cut it to a one run lead, it was just about all DockHounds the rest of the way. Lake Country added two in the third on a two -run homer by Marcus Chiu, and two more on an RBI single by Demetrius Sims in the fourth to make it 8-4.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars cut into the lead once again. Jonah Davis belted a solo homer the opposite way that made it 8-5 at the time. The DockHounds then went on to pile up nine more runs, including back-to-back home runs by Nick Banks and Meregildo in the fifth inning. Lake Country finished the night with 17 runs on 12 hits. The Cougars did add one more run on a single by Daniel Wasinger in the eighth, but it was too little too late.
The Cougars conclude the series with the DockHounds on Sunday afternoon in Geneva. Right-hander Jack Fox (3-1, 1.72) will take the hill for Kane County, while the starter for Lake Country is to be announced. For tickets and more information call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
